White Tara

White (sveta) Tara is one of the most popular goddesses in the Buddhist Mahayana tradition. She is believed to have emanated from the tear of bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. In Sanskrit she is often referred to as "Saptalocanatara" meaning the Seven-eyed Tara. She is also the main goddess among the three deities of longevity with Amitayus and Ushnisavijaya. Most often these three deities appear in a triad within a thangka.

White color of her body symbolizes Peace, Calmness and Contemptness which are the foundation for longevity. She holds a blue flower in her left hand as a symbol of peace and the right hand is seen in the charity posture. Both hands and feet have eyes with two normal eyes and third eye on the forehead making seven eyes in total. The eyes in feet and hands symbolizes wakefulness that she is always awake of non harming any other beings and the third eye is the wisdom eye that sees the suffering of beings in the six realms.
